        From Screen to Robot: Students Build AI Smart Sorter

        During the workshop, students took on a full-stack challenge to develop an AI-powered “Smart Sorter.” The system combined computer vision to identify different types of waste with an industrial robotic arm to pick and sort materials.

        Participants gained hands-on experience across the entire development process, including dataset collection, model training, system calibration, managing latency, and end-to-end integration. The programme highlighted the practical steps required to move from a functioning digital model to a reliable physical system operating in real-world conditions.

        The workshop was delivered in collaboration with WISIO Tech and supported by the teaching team at Chinese International School, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing innovative STEM education focused on sustainability and practical technology applications.

            At the event, we unveiled two different types of smart recycling bins, an innovative solution integrated with the HKSTP app designed to reward participants with “Green Points” for their recycling efforts. The points can be redeemed for gifts or used to unlock interactive games, encouraging sustainable daily habits.

            The showcase provided a platform for us to engage with the HKSTP community, including staff, tenants, and industry partners. Discussions highlighted a strong interest in practical, real-world green technologies that deliver measurable community engagement and environmental impact.

            The launch underscored the growing demand for accessible, tech-driven sustainability tools that can be seamlessly integrated into public spaces to enhance environmental awareness and community-wide recycling performance. This embodies our core mentra “Green is Action”.

              During the programme, Mr Chan explained how the company’s AI-powered solutions are applied to waste sorting and recycling operations. The technology enables more accurate identification and classification of materials, helping to increase processing efficiency, reduce contamination, and support higher recovery rates.
